Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, guys! I tackled a lot of revision today and hoping to power through some more this weekend. So let’s kick things off with a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or fewer.

ReadingConviction by Kelly Loy Gilbert
Powerful book about family, sports, abuse, religion, survival and more. So good.

Writing: “…if I can find a college that offers foot-mouth-contortion as a major, I’ll be set.”
As tough as revision can be sometimes, I’m glad to be back with these guys.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m extra excited for this Friday, because it’s the start of ALA weekend here in Boston, which means I get to meet some of my favorite librarians and bloggers and writers in person. Book lovers unite!

In case you’re in town for the conference or a YA-loving local, don’t forget to come to tonight’s Real Teen Lives YA panel at Brookline Booksmith (7pm EST)! In the meantime, let’s kick off the weekend with a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or fewer.

Reading: Bitch Planet, Vol 1: Extraordinary Machine (Bitch Planet #1-5) by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro, Taki Soma, Robert Wilson
Started off the year with some feminist sci-fi graphic novel goodness.

Writing: “I wonder if Ms. Simpson is somewhere now, walking with the living and reciting poetry.”
My latest short story (about poetry and the zombie apocalypse) is up at the Hanging Garden.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, everyone! I saw Star Wars: the Force Awakens last night, which means my brain still isn’t quite awake today, but at least we’re heading into the weekend. Most of my writing time was outlining, so here’s a double dose of book reviews in fifteen words or fewer:

Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler
Lovely, touching story of two friends at the edge of major life changes.

Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood
Whether in book or TV form, Phryne Fisher is my favorite detective. Yeah, I said it.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, everyone`! Somehow it’s the first Friday in December, and I’m still trying to convince myself that winter won’t actually happen this year. (We got enough snow last year for at least three years, right?) While I up my hot coffee/tea game, here’s a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen word or under.

ReadingGuy in Real Life by Steve Brezenoff
Funny and sweet contemp; also made me want to schedule a D&D game.

Writing:  I smell it before I know what it is—ash and snow.
I kind of don’t know what this project is, and it might just be for me, but at least it’s some words on a page.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, guys! After a lot of travel, I’m back at home and diving into a new project. Here’s a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or fewer.

ReadingAll the Rage by Courtney Summers
A punch in the gut kind of book about rape culture in a small town.

Writing: “…I offered to make Miles a last-minute saint outfit (bathrobe, sandals, tin foil halo).”
It’s been a while since I wrote from the big sister perspective; already digging this new protagonist.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m kind of stunned that it’s already the first Friday of November–wasn’t it just summer? I was traveling this week and didn’t get a lot of writing done, but I did use my travel time to catch up on some reading, so this week’s Friday Fifteen is a double-dose of micro book reviews:

This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee
A thrilling take on Frankenstein and what it means to be a monster. Miyazaki adaptation, please!

What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami
Loved this look at long-distance running as I prepare for my first marathon.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, all! And Happy (almost) Halloween! This is going to be my soundtrack for handing out candy on Saturday. Let’s get the weekend going with a look at what I’ve been reading and writing, in fifteen words or fewer.

Reading: Front and Center by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
The Dairy Queen series needs more attention; DJ’s story is funny, sensitive, and genuine. LOVE.

Writing: “…we strip off our parkas and boots, slip on our suits and swim caps.”
Working on my next story for the Hanging Garden. Keep an eye out for it on Monday!

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, guys! I finished a revision this week (hurray!), so I’m feeling good about heading into the weekend. Let’s kick things off with a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or fewer.

Reading: Things I Can’t Forget by Miranda Kenneally
Questions of faith and summer camp kisses–a thoughtful and sweet combination.

Writing: “There’s been a surprising number of sing-alongs on this trip. Is that a team requirement?”
Yes. Yes it is.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, guys! I’m powering through revisions and am emotionally unprepared for how cold it’s going to get over the weekend here in the Boston area. In the meantime, here’s a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or under.

Reading: The Martian by Andy Weir
Fun and funny and loved how it embraced science. Mentally cast Anthony Mackie as Watney.

Writing: “…pretend that I have a little more creativity than spiking the punch at College Night.”
Character has standards for his pranks.

Friday Fifteen

Happy Friday, everyone! I feel like we’ve had about five weeks packed into one, so I’m glad to be heading into a long weekend. Here’s a look at what I’ve been reading and writing in fifteen words or under.

Reading: Wildlife by Fiona Wood
Sensitive, thoughtful, real—a new favorite contemporary YA. What is it about Australian YA writers?!

Writing: “Dante does also play a mean clarinet…The band people notice stuff like that.”
Back into revisions after a helpful workshop with my wonderful crit group.
